Enrique was born and raised in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero Mexico and left to follow the American Dream. His wine journey started in 2001 on his arrival to Paso where he worked his first of many harvests as first a Cellar Rat, then Cellar Master, and later Assistant Winemaker for Martin & Weyrich Winery. Enrique went on to work at a large production local winery, SVP, where he learned the invaluable business end of the wine industry. He later went on to work at Pacific Wine Services, a small custom crush facility, developing his skill in boutique wine production. He now enjoys working at Cali Paso because it has the perfect balance between those large and small environments. In addition to CaliPaso Winery, Enrique started his own Boutique Winery Diablo Paso in 2012 which specializes in Spanish Varietals grown locally in the Central Coast.
Educationally, Enrique worked hard during the day and took night classes to improve his English. He has also attended Wine Seminars from UC Davis California and Fresno State, but overall it has been his on the job experience working his way from the bottom of the barrel up which has made him an exceptionally well rounded winemaker.
